Lewis Media Inc. Helps Launch the Waterloo Region SPP

esterday, Joseph Fung, President and CEO of Lewis Media Inc., proudly took part in the historic launch of Waterloo Region's Social Purchasing Portal. He was even more excited to be responsible for the first hire made through the fledgling service. Colene Allen, who recently started with Lewis Media in a sales support role, came to Lewis Media through the Social Purchasing Portal. Colene also attended the launch where she expressed enthusiastic support for the Portal's collaborative approach and the recent end to a seven month period of frustrating unemployment.

The official launch of the Purchasing Portal began with a lunchtime press conference at the Delta Kitchener Hotel. Following the press conference, a trade show highlighting participants of the Social Purchasing Portal gave everyone in attendance an opportunity to learn more about these community-minded businesses. In addition to receiving the essential support of participating businesses like Lewis Media Inc., the Social Purchasing Portal is financially supported through a three year sponsorship and funding from The Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Lewis Media believes in the Social Purchasing Portal's mandate to develop the economy in a unique, innovative and socially responsible manner by actively engaging the entire community, including the business community. Lewis Media's involvement came about as a result of Joseph Fung's personal commitment to Waterloo Region. A commitment he translates into socially responsible company policies such as Lewis Media's Community Citizenship Policy, which states, "...it is our responsibility to contribute to all communities in which we work and live..." Participating in the Social Purchasing Portal was a natural extension of Lewis Media's corporate philosophy that thriving businesses contribute to, and are part of, thriving communities. Or, as Mr. Fung shared with reporters at the launch, "It just makes good business sense."

Lewis Media will continue to support the Social Purchasing Portal and its collaborating agencies in there efforts to build a more cohesive community that offers opportunities to all of its members. Again, in the words of the company's President and CEO, "Being part of the solution is the only option."
